The flute is a musical instrument of the woodwind family. Unlike other woodwind instruments, a flute is a reedless wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air against an edge. A musician who plays the flute can be referred to as a flute player, a flautist, or a flutist.

Most people know very little about the flute, even flutists may be surprised to know how many different types there are. The history of the flute begins many centuries ago, even as early as 4,000 BC. You could consider an early version to be the pan-pipe. The word actually comes from a Latin word “flutus” which translates to “breathe”. And breath truly is its fuel.

One of the most popular types of flutes is the Bonneville. A silver smith who created some of the most beautiful sounding instruments in the world originally made the Bonneville.

Gemeinhardt, another top flute manufacturer make a wide variety along with piccolos. Yamaha is yet another leading brand. But if you are looking for a somewhat less expensive one you should check Armstrong.

Most people are introduced to the flute in their elementary or high school band class. This is a great way to get started playing, but typically the most common is a student version.

Buying a Flute

If you are purchasing a flute, this is one instrument that really does not need many accessories. It should come with its own carrying case to keep it safe from harm and you need to buy a music stand to keep your sheet music in easy view.

Make sure your flute has a cleaning cloth and a pipe-like accessory to clean the inside after playing. This will ensure that the pads of the flute keys will remain in good shape.

The trumpet is a musical instrument with the highest register in the brass family. Trumpets are among the oldest musical instruments, dating back to at least 1500 BC. They are constructed of brass tubing bent twice into an oblong shape, and are played by blowing air through closed lips, producing a “buzzing” sound which starts a standing wave vibration in the air column inside the trumpet.

The trumpet is one of the most popular instruments that students start to play when taking a band class at school. Many people think that trumpets are very easy to play since all it seems to consist of is a mouthpiece, horn, and three valves. Trumpets sound easy to plant, don’t they? However, as anyone who has picked one up can tell you, playing it is anything but simple.

Trumpets are considered a soprano brass instrument and it has all but eclipsed its similar counterpart — the cornet. The cornet’s sound is controlled while the trumpet is much livelier.

Many years ago, the trumpet was typically used as a signal instrument. Everyone can remember the movies that show one signaling the beginning of a battle. These days however, it is considered one of the loveliest instruments in the band.

If you are looking to purchase a trumpet, there are several things you should consider. There are different grades that you can purchase. For example, if you are buying one for your child there is no sense in spending large amounts of money if they are only going to play it for a year.

And don’t forget when buying your trumpet to check it comes in its own case and consider getting a music stand.

Some of the most popular trumpet manufacturers are Yamaha, Jupiter, and Barrington. All make excellent instruments with high standards of quality and durability. You really cannot go wrong.
